Baby Chick Pooh!!

This is my version of a "monion". It keeps me company while Brock is at school. His name is baby chick pooh.

(I realize that I didn't use a scale object, but he is about the size of a quarter)

Look at the cool things he can do.

One Last Try

Ok, I noticed that I have been posting a lot of pictures lately. So, I decided to to try just one. I thought this one might satisfy everyone (plus it is one of the very few that Brock took which actually turned out good).
Yes, there are horses (everyone likes horses). This is a pixis that Alison really likes to show in her classes. I think it is also on the cover of one of the textbooks that she uses, so I was pretty thrilled to see it in person. (it is a lot bigger than I expected) Enjoy!!

Pretty Pics from the ROM

Ok, so I was going to put more pictures of the cool stuff at the ROM, but I live in a hole so the pictures won't upload right today. For anyne who has never lived in a hole, let me explain. The main rule of living in a hole is that anything relating to or relying on electrical connections to any form of wave-lengths is not going to function properly all of the time. For example, the reception of the TV (even with an antenna) will always be a little fuzzy, the phone sometimes has an echo, and, as is the case right now, the internet functions at a consistency difficult to predict. Anyway, point is "no pictures today". Sorry, but I blame it on the Portsmouth hole and so should you.

A romp through the ROM?!!

Here are a few funny pictures from our tour of the ROM.

Hidden within the Burgess Shale exhibit (off in a corner there were 3 dispaly cases, the high-light of Brock's day at the ROM) I found this little fossil with an interesting name (please excuse the flash glare).

This is Brock in the dress-up kids section. If you look really closely he apparently has his eyes crossed. I think there may be a bit of a Star Wars character resemblance.

In case you can't tell I was very excited about the blue monkey fresco, something which neither of the other girls fully understood, but they seem amuzed by me at least.
I don't know what the deal was with this. It is on display in the Egyptian section. I don't think I can say anything more because if you are like me you are laughing at this already. Oh the silliness of the ROM, what were they thinking?!

Platform 9 and 3/4 Please!!

Here are a few more pictures of the train we took to Toronto.
This is part of the uncomfortable sleep.
The view into our car from one of the fun spots in-between the cars. These spots a rather noisy, cold and unstable making it a little tricky to walk through. Plus I had a little trouble opening the doors, so I usually made Cara go through first.
This is the dinning car (not set up for eating yet). Unfortunately, all I could eat at it was breakfast. Though I must admit, Jules was a very nice waiter/host and gave me deals on the meal because I didn't get the toast, or ham with my eggs.
This is the domed observation car. If the picture was looking the other direction (ie. forward), then you can all see how the front window was shattered and not very transparent anymore. That's what you get in "comfort economy"/peasant class.

This is below the observation car. Cara and I played checkers here, and yes I did beat her prooving once and for all that Cara can actually lose at a game of something. I was and still am very proud.

The interesting part (for all you Harry Potter fans), is that when we finally arrived in Toronto we got off onto the platform between 9 and 10. That was my only real direct similarity between my train trip and that of the Hogwarts Express.

Harry Potter-esque???

Here are some pictures from the train ride. Not quite as Harry Potter-ish as I thought it would be.

Large phallic symbol in Winnipeg (notice it is as large as Cara), it turned out to be a bridge though.

If you look really closely you can spot the World's largest Coke can (don't remember what little town it was in though).

Also, it's a plane!! This was at lac Seul (some crazy broad from BC got off there, I only know she was crazy because Cara and I had to eat supper with her one night. Trust me , CRAZY!!)

According to the voice-over intercom guy this is Canyon Lake, the longest lake fully in the province of Toronto (that is a direct quote). Those voice-overs were my favorite, they were hilarious. Other fun facts include that we came close to Timins-home of Shania Twain, Goldie Hawne and Kirt Douglas owned a cottage on Lake Muskoka (sp?), and Gordie Howe was born in Parry Sound. Just a few little tips for you from the east.

PS- more photos to come.

D-day fun!!

Ok, so just to back-track a little. Here are some picture from after my defense. We went to Alexander's

and then Kasia's for a late night fire pitting. Kas made the decorations herself.

I have landed...

So, I am finally in Kingston. My goodness the train seemed long. Well, the first day was ok. But, after we passed Sudbury it all seemed terribly bad. I had trouble sleeping the night before, and it seemed like we were not allowed off of the train after Sioux Lookout (check out a map, it is very far from Toronto). I could only eat the breakfast on the train so later in the day I managed to eat a whole bar of 70% cocoa dark chocolate, needless to say I ended up puking it up very shortly after I finished it (I blame you Kasia). It was everywhere, but Cara felt so bad by my mental state that after I washed my shirt in the moving toilet she gave me her blanket because mine was covered in sick. Plus, our train was 2 hours late so we had to run to catch the connecting train from Toronto to Kingston. And, to top it off sometime along the way a bug bit my boob!! Pictures to come (not of my boob but of the trip).

Clean Bill of Health

I've been released.
My check-up went well and all the doctors agreed that I can go.
Wow!! It all seems so unreal.
Now it is busy busy busy until I move on Saturday night.

Coming Attractions: D-day, the beginning or the end?

Ok, so tomorrow is my defense. Weeee!!! Should be a fun ride, like one of those roller-coasters where you can never see beyond the next bend, not knowing what to expect and just holding on for dear life.

Here is my new metaphor for Grad School:
Your period is 3 days late (you apply to grad school).
You discover that you are pregnant (take your courses).
Nine months later you go into labour (start writing your thesis).
Finally you give birth (finish writing your thesis).
The baby is healthy and doing well (your committee approves your defense draft).
Your teared cervix is stitched, but you lost a lot of blood so they want to keep you admitted and monitor you for a while (the 3 week wait until your defense date).
The doctor gives your hoo-hoo a final proding before removing the stitches and signing your hospital release forms (your oral defense).
Your girly bits are sore and you turn down sex with Ashley Parker Angel (revisions).
Finally, you 've lost the baby weight, are tempted to reattempt a sex life and realize you now have amazing tits (drop it off at the binder, and pick it up).

I know this sounds like a long and trying process, but once you hold that beautiful baby and it looks into your eyes you will forget all the effort and want another one (You apply for your PhD).
Just remember the second child is always harder. You are a lot older for this process so it is the one that makes you lose your figure for good! Keep in mind people have been doing this for hundreds of years so you can do it!!

EXTRA!!! EXTRA!!!

My first post.
Yes, I am moving and to keep in touch with everyone I have started a blog. Oh dear, what have I gotten myself into. Now you all can feel closer to me by enduring my crazy rants into the internet ether. Enjoy.
PS- I understand if no one ever reads this (I expect it will be no where as interesting as Jer's since I am highly web searching challenged), it is for my own sanity that I will continue posting regardless of comments from you.
